Scared

Hi my little monkey. Yesterday was our follow up ultrasound to check on your kidneys. At our first 3D ultrasound they spotted a mass over one kidney, but Dr Woods was sure it was either a shadow from the machine or something that would clear up on it's own. Well, what ever it was, it's gone and you are one perfectly healthy little lady! As I was cleaning up the gel the ultrasound tech was checking all the scans and asked me to empty my bladder so she could do a quick transvaginal ultrasound, because she realized she needed to check the placenta. She did her thing, not saying much and then quickly ushered us into a patient room to wait for Dr. Woods. His nurse came in, took my blood pressure, noticed the ultrasound slip on the counter, made a pained look on her face and said doctor would be in shortly to discuss with us, but that she couldn't comment on the scan. Um... What? I'm a naturally nervous person so this didn't sit well with me. When Dr. Woods came in he told me and daddy that I had placenta previa. Basically the placenta is covering the cervix, and your exit route is blocked. Placenta previa carries a high risk of bleeding which can become life threatening if the bleeding isn't treated right away. It's very rare too. So in 4 more weeks we'll do another ultrasound to see if the placenta has moved. If it has then all is good. If it hasn't and I haven't had any bleeding we will discuss when to have a C-section... At 37 weeks or wait till you are closer to full term. Of course if I start bleeding, depending on how severe it is you could be born by C-section right then and there, or scheduled at 37 weeks. As you can imagine I was a bit of a mess last night as I digested this news. We called all your grandparents to fill them in and then headed off to our next baby class "breastfeeding 101". Your daddy is so tuned into me and my emotions. Something I'm eternally grateful for. Everytime my mind would wander during class, he would stroke my back or neck or hair, and pull me back to reality. When we got home he spent the night holding me on the couch and snuggling me in bed, never more than a few inches away and it was so comforting. He also did some research on placenta previa. The more we know the better prepared we can be. 2 of your grandma's who live close by offered to help with cleaning so I can be off my feet as much as possible. That's such a blessing! Grandma Paulson has offered a priesthood blessing too. And this morning daddy sent me the text in the picture. I know I've said it before. But he's my rock. Let this be evidence that we love fiercely and for you we will move mountains. Love you little one, love mommy.
